  • Includes policies adopted by the ARIN Board of Trustees in December 2024 and January 2025.

What happened: ARIN updates Number Resource Policy Manual to version 2025.1

The American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) has released an updated version of its Number Resource Policy Manual (NRPM), version 2025.1, which is now in effect and replaces the previous version. This update follows the adoption of several key policies by the ARIN Board of Trustees during their meetings on December 9, 2024, and January 14, 2025. These policies aim to refine and modernize ARIN’s guidelines for managing internet number resources, ensuring they remain clear, consistent, and aligned with current industry practices.

Why it’s important

The publication of NRPM version 2025.1 underscores ARIN’s commitment to maintaining transparent and effective policies for the allocation and management of internet number resources. The updated policies address critical areas such as simplifying language for direct assignments, enhancing transparency in Whois data reporting, removing outdated provisions for community networks, and clarifying rules for multiple discrete networks. These changes are designed to reduce ambiguity, improve operational efficiency, and ensure that ARIN’s policies remain relevant in a rapidly evolving internet landscape.

For stakeholders, including internet service providers (ISPs), enterprises, and community networks, these updates provide clearer guidelines and more streamlined processes. By adopting these policies, ARIN not only supports the efficient management of internet resources but also reinforces its role as a trusted steward in the global internet governance ecosystem. Stakeholders are encouraged to review the updated NRPM to understand how these changes may impact their operations and ensure compliance with the new guidelines.
