What is Globe Telecom: Industry role and services in the Philippines

Globe Telecom Inc. is one of the Philippines’ largest telecommunications and digital service providers. Headquartered in Taguig, Metro Manila, Globe delivers mobile, broadband, enterprise ICT, and fintech services to over 91 million customers. It is jointly owned by Ayala Corporation and Singtel. It operates under a strong mission to improve Filipino lives through digital transformation. Globe’s services include mobile voice and data, home internet via fibre and wireless, and fintech through its GCash platform.

According to its corporate site, Globe maintains extensive fibre and mobile network infrastructure. It also supports enterprise solutions through its Globe Business division. In 2023, the company reported high demand for fibre broadband and mobile data, reflecting increased digital adoption post-pandemic.

Globe recently expanded its 5G network, making it available in over 3,000 locations nationwide. The company also supports environmental goals, committing to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Globe Telecom in a shifting industry: Innovations and challenges

The Philippine telecommunications industry faces increasing demand for high-speed internet and digital inclusion. Rising mobile usage, remote work, and e-commerce require telcos to invest in infrastructure and customer-centric services. Globe meets this demand through continuous upgrades to its network and digital platforms.

Recent newsroom updates show efforts in cybersecurity education, customer experience improvements, and financial inclusion. GCash, Globe’s mobile wallet, now has over 80 million users and plays a central role in everyday transactions across the country. The company also invests in digital health, e-learning, and entertainment platforms to support users beyond connectivity.

In 2024, Globe launched GFiber Prepaid, a no-lock-in fibre product aimed at underserved communities. It also partnered with the Department of Education to promote online safety for children. These moves align with its commitment to responsible digital citizenship and accessible technology.

With evolving consumer needs and increased competition, Globe adapts by reinforcing its core services and introducing new digital tools to retain its leadership in the telecom space.
