    • Crypto4Harris pushed for the Democratic Party to be more pro-crypto, with the goal of influencing Kamala Harris and regulatory appointments.
    • The group planed grassroots fundraising and strategic dialogue to shape crypto policy, highlighting the growing political importance of cryptocurrency.

    OUR TAKE
The newly formed Crypto4Harris group convened to push Vice President Kamala Harris to adopt pro-cryptocurrency policies and align Democratic positions more favourably with digital assets. Featuring key political figures such as Chuck Schumer, the group discussed legislative ambitions for cryptocurrency and planned grassroots support for Harris. Their goal is to influence potential regulatory appointments and promote a crypto-friendly regulatory environment, which emphasises the growing importance of cryptocurrency as an election issue.

    What happened

A group of cryptocurrency advocates called Crypto4Harris held its first virtual meeting on Wednesday night, focusing on getting Vice President Kamala Harris to take a pro-cryptocurrency stance and align Democratic policies on digital assets.

The event underscored the urgency of cryptocurrency regulation as a key issue for Democrats, and featured appearances from key figures such as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who expressed a desire to pass cryptocurrency legislation this year.

“We cannot afford to continue to sit on the sidelines because we risk crypto going overseas,” Chuck Schumer said.

Besides, the group plans to organise nationwide grassroots fundraisers in September to support Harris’ campaign, and aims to influence potential regulatory appointments to foster a more crypto-friendly environment.

“The main goal of everything we’re doing is to completely reset crypto and blockchain policy,” Jonathan Padilla, CEO of blockchain company Snickerdoodle Labs and one of the group’s organisers, told Reuters ahead of the meeting.

    Why it’s important

Crypto4Harris is a newly formed group that aims to support Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign while advocating for a shift in the Democratic Party’s stance towards more favourable cryptocurrency policies.

This contrasts with Donald Trump’s direct appeals to crypto donors. The group’s activities suggest strategic positioning as Kamala Harris shows increasing competitiveness in the polls against Trump.

The group’s activities include organising grassroots fundraising events and engaging with the Harris campaign to influence future regulatory appointments and promote a more crypto-friendly environment.

“There’s a real opportunity to open up this issue and take it back from the Republican side,” said Rashan Colbert, head of policy at crypto exchange dYdX and a member of Crypto4Harris.

At the DNC convention next week, tech groups are also hosting a panel on digital assets with lawmakers and other industry executives. While not part of the official programme, the panel could provide a venue for Democrats to develop a clearer crypto policy, according to “The Economic Times”.
