    African fintech Union54 launches chat + payment app

    • Zambia-based fintech Union54 has launched a new social commerce app named ChitChat, Africa’s first secure chat platform with integrated digital wallet features.
    • Union54 is a financial technology company that offers card-issuing services without needing a third-party processor.
    • ChitChat will allow users across Africa to chat via an encrypted platform and transfer money to each other through its digital wallet.

    Zambia-based fintech company Union54 has launches a new social commerce platform called ChitChat, aiming to accelerate commerce across Africa.

    New social commerce platform ChitChat provides convenience for businesses in Africa

    ChitChat, the new social commerce platform developed in partnership with global payments giant Mastercard, allows users across Africa to chat via an encrypted platform and transfer money to each other through its digital wallet features.

    Union54, a pan-Africa digital solutions provider and debit card issuer, reveals that ChitChat will allow for immediate USD payment transfers directly within chat conversations. Additionally, it offers the convenience of in-app currency conversion between USD and Zambian Kwacha (ZMW).

    ChitChat will assist Africa’s economic growth

    Perseus Mlambo, CEO of Union54, says that ChitChat’s founding principles are to be a “safe, secure, and sovereign platform for social commerce”.

    “We aim to grow ChitChat into a platform that accelerates commerce across Africa,” Mlambo adds.

    Union54 plans to quickly refine the app’s functionality and plans to launch a group wallet in the coming weeks. By the second quarter of this year, the company expects to also offer dollar debit cards to users.
