    Pacific forum highlights digital governance and island resilience

    APNIC 58 is scheduled to take place from 30 August to 6 September 2024, beginning with a series of workshops and partner meetings from 30 August to 2 September.

    The Pacific Chapter of the Internet Society (PICISOC) has organised the virtual and hybrid Pacific Internet Governance forum in collaboration with key stakeholders, specifically targeting the unique needs and challenges of the Pacific islands region. This forum prioritises local issues and developments in Internet Governance that are crucial to the Pacific Island communities. It aims to offer unbiased advice to both governments and the public on internet-related matters that directly impact the people of the Pacific Islands. By embracing a human-centric design thinking approach, the forum is committed to fostering innovative solutions tailored to the distinct challenges faced by members of the Pacific region.

    These workshops set the stage for the main conference, which will run from 4 to 6 September 2024. The conference convened internet and networking experts, government representatives, industry leaders, and other stakeholders from around the globe to exchange knowledge, share ideas and experiences, build networks, and shape policies related to internet operations.

    Pacific IGF 2024: collaboration and innovation

    Pacific IGF 2024 underscored the critical need for collaboration and innovation in digital governance across the Pacific Islands. The forum brought together stakeholders and experts to address the evolving challenges and opportunities within the region’s digital landscape, with a focus on human-centric approaches to governance.

    Sessions include Round table discussion by Pacific IGF Pioneers, Digital Transformation trends in the Pacifi islands, Artificial Intelligence, Internet Resource Services in the Pacific islands, Technology in Enhancing Access to information, Internet Resilience and UNESCO Session, etc.

    Key discussions on digital transformation and resilience

    A significant portion of the forum was dedicated to discussions on digital transformation, AI integration, and internet resilience. These sessions provided valuable insights into regional cooperation, capacity building, and the ethical implications of AI, particularly in Pacific Island universities.

    Global significance and future strategy

    The forum also highlighted the global relevance of Pacific IGF’s initiatives, particularly through the UNESCO-led session on strengthening internet governance.
