Cross-IX: AMS-IX & Netnod streamline European peering connectivity

AMS-IX and Netnod have unveiled Cross-IX, a service designed to improve connectivity across European peering hubs. This collaboration allows Netnod IX clients to establish direct links with AMS-IX Amsterdam, facilitating data exchange with over 860 networks transmitting almost 12 Terabits per second of traffic.

Expanding connectivity opportunities

Cross-IX enables clients at participating Internet Exchanges to access previously unavailable networks. The aim is to simplify connectivity to major European hubs, reducing risks, delays, and capital expenditure on hardware and colocation facilities.

Simplified financial management

Transportation costs are included in Cross-IX pricing, simplifying financial assessments. All connections can be managed through a single contract and provisioned on existing or new ports.

Operational efficiency: Simplify European peering links

Currently operational from Netnod IX Stockholm to AMS-IX Amsterdam, plans are underway to extend Cross-IX services to enable AMS-IX Amsterdam clients to establish direct connections to Netnod IX Stockholm. Netnod IX Stockholm boasts over 200 Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) exchanging in excess of 2 Terabits per second of traffic, promising expanded operational efficiency and enhanced connectivity opportunities for stakeholders.
