    • The RSTP houses facilities such as the Advanced School of IT and the National Data Centre, providing key resources for technology education and research.
    • The RSTP has been designated as a special economic zone, offering attractive incentives to encourage both local and international investment in technology and biotechnology.

The Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP) is a dynamic driver of economic growth and innovation in the Kingdom of Eswatini. Established under the vision of His Majesty King Mswati III and enacted through the Royal Science and Technology Park Act of 2012, the RSTP aims to transform Eswatini into a knowledge-based economy.

This initiative focuses on harnessing science, technology and innovation to increase economic growth, enhance human capacity and address the socio-economic challenges of the 21st century. By facilitating research, technology transfer and entrepreneurship, the RSTP is not only a hub for technological advancement, but also a foundation for sustainable development and poverty alleviation in the region.

    Mission and Strategic Objectives

The Royal Science and Technology Park is committed to moving Eswatini forward by fostering an environment ripe for scientific discovery and technological innovation. Its mission is multi-faceted and includes enhancing the nation’s capacity for scientific research and development, stimulating the commercialisation of new technologies and developing human capital through advanced education and training in IT and biotechnology.

    Divisional overview and infrastructure

The Royal Science and Technology Park is strategically divided into two main divisions, each tailored to specific areas of technological development:

Innovation Park: Covering 158.4 hectares in Phocweni, this division is dedicated to information technology services and products. Its flagship facility, Songcondvongcondvo Wemaswati House, covers 4 hectares and is designed as a platform for IT R&D, high-tech product manufacturing and marketing. It includes the Advanced School of IT, a business incubator and investor management services.

Biotechnology Park: Located in Nokwane with a total area of 159 hectares, it focuses on the development of biotechnology. It includes industrial, residential and multi-purpose areas such as the One Stop Shop service centre and a cultural village, fostering a comprehensive ecosystem for biotech innovation and entrepreneurship.

About the Royal Science and Technology Park

Since its inception in 2012, the Royal Science and Technology Park has become a beacon of innovation and economic development in Eswatini. Situated on over 317 hectares of land dedicated to the development of the IT and biotechnology industries, the RSTP not only supports the growth of these sectors, but also plays a critical role in the Kingdom’s overall economic strategy.
