Perplexity AI raising new investment at $9B valuation

What happened

According to the source, venture capital company Institutional Venture Partners (IVP), which also owns a board seat in the startup, is spearheading a fresh investment round for California-based Perplexity that is expected to raise $500 million. In January, the business raised $73.6 million in Series B capital. IVP led the investment round, which valued the business at roughly $520 million.

Perplexity AI raised $5 million in its seed funding round in 2022. This round was led by prominent investors including Coatue Management and Founders Fund, alongside participation from other notable venture capital firms. In 2023, Perplexity AI secured $15 million in a Series A funding round. This round was co-led by Coatue Management and Greylock Partners. Perplexity AI is set to finalize a substantial funding round that will significantly boost its valuation to approximately $9 billion. 

Alongside traditional venture capital, Perplexity AI has formed strategic partnerships that bolster its technological capabilities and market reach.
