    • NIC-MG, also known as Network Information Centre Madagascar, was established in 2000 to manage the domain name registry for Madagascar.
    • NIC-MG stands as a testament to Madagascar’s commitment to a robust and responsible digital infrastructure.
    • As the internet continues to evolve, NIC-MG’s role will remain critical in shaping Madagascar’s online narrative.

Network Information Centre-Madagascar (NIC-MG) is a symbol of Madagascar’s dedication to a strong and accountable digital framework. As custodians of the .MG domain, they guarantee the nation’s online presence is both reachable and aligned with the cultural and legal standards of Malagasy society. In the ever-changing digital landscape, NIC-MG’s influence is essential in crafting Madagascar’s digital story.

    From SRI International to ICANN

The journey of NIC-MG is intertwined with the evolution of the global internet’s infrastructure. Initially managed by the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) from 1972 until 1991, the mantle was passed to Network Solutions, which oversaw operations until 1998. The baton then reached the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), marking a new chapter in the administration of domain name services.

NIC-MG’s responsibilities extend beyond the mere allocation of .MG domain names. It is tasked with maintaining the integrity and accessibility of these digital assets. This includes managing the registration of unique identifiers for .MG domains and ensuring the accuracy of the associated addresses and contact information accessible through the Whois service.

    NIC-MG organises IPV6 training course

NIC-MG organised a comprehensive training workshop focused on Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) in December 2023. The event, held at the Hôtel Ibis Antananarivo, aims to equip participants with a profound and hands-on understanding of IPv6, a critical component in the modern IT infrastructure.

NIC-MG’s IPv6 workshop represents a significant step forward in Madagascar’s journey towards a more connected and advanced digital landscape. By investing in the education of its IT professionals, the country is paving the way for broader adoption of IPv6, ensuring its networks remain at the cutting edge of technological evolution. This initiative is not just about training; it’s about shaping the future of Madagascar’s digital identity in the global arena.

    About NIC-MG

The Network Information Centre Madagascar (NIC-MG) is the authoritative institution responsible for managing Madagascar’s presence on the global internet landscape. As the designated registry for the .MG top-level domain (TLD), NIC-MG plays a crucial role in the nation’s digital infrastructure by ensuring the registration and maintenance of .MG domain names. This includes the allocation of domain names to individuals, organisations, and government bodies, as well as managing the associated technical parameters and contact information.

NIC-MG is committed to fostering a robust and reliable online environment in Madagascar. It achieves this by implementing effective domain name policies, providing essential information and guidance to registrants, and serving as a mediator in domain disputes. The organisation also focuses on promoting the adoption of internet standards and technologies, such as IPv6, through educational initiatives and workshops, which are vital for the growth and security of Madagascar’s digital ecosystem.
