LINKdotNET: Egypt’s internet revolution under Orange’s banner

    • LINKdotNET, Egypt’s original internet provider, continues to thrive under Orange Egypt’s ownership.
    • The telecom industry faces pressure from rising data demand, global tech shifts, and increasing infrastructure needs.

LINKdotNET: Egypt’s first ISP continues to evolve

LINKdotNET holds a unique position in Egypt’s tech history. Launched in 1992, it was the first company to bring internet services to the country, setting the stage for decades of digital connectivity. Over the years, LINKdotNET carved a reputation for innovation, reliability, and customer focus. Its acquisition by Orange Egypt (formerly Mobinil) in July 2010 was a strategic milestone that signalled a new era of convergence between internet and mobile services.

The deal allowed Orange to offer integrated fixed connectivity, leveraging LINKdotNET’s robust infrastructure and expertise. As a result, business clients across Egypt now benefit from solutions including dedicated internet access, broadband connectivity, and advanced IP-VPN services—crucial for digital transformation in sectors like finance, logistics, and healthcare.

Orange Egypt’s business portal outlines a full suite of enterprise services that stem from LINKdotNET’s foundation. This includes smart Wi-Fi, secure data centres, and scalable fibre-based connections tailored for corporate needs.

LINKdotNET faces a shifting telecom landscape

Despite its legacy, LINKdotNET—like all telecom players—is navigating a fast-changing environment. The explosion in mobile usage, cloud-based services, and IoT devices has driven demand for faster, more reliable networks. Industry analysts point out that infrastructure investment, cybersecurity, and customer data protection are now key battlegrounds.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s telecom regulator has pushed for greater service competition and infrastructure sharing. This creates both opportunity and pressure for legacy providers like LINKdotNET to maintain quality while adapting to a fragmented and demanding market.

In recent years, Orange Egypt has invested heavily in fibre optics and 4G+ rollout, directly benefiting LINKdotNET’s ability to deliver high-speed connectivity. Orange’s overall business services division has reported consistent growth in corporate subscriptions.
