    • Globe Telecom has partnered with Red Hat to modernise its IT infrastructure using Red Hat OpenShift, enhancing agility, scalability, and operational efficiency.
    • This collaboration has enabled Globe to innovate faster, reduce time-to-market, and improve customer experiences through advanced cloud technologies and streamlined development processes.
    • The partnership marks a significant step in Globe’s transformation into a technology-driven enterprise, positioning it to adapt to the evolving digital landscape.

Globe Telecom, a leading digital solutions platform in the Philippines, has announced a strategic collaboration with Red Hat, Inc., the world’s foremost provider of open-source solutions, to modernise Globe’s IT infrastructure. This partnership aims to enhance Globe’s agility, scalability, and innovation, ultimately driving improvements in operational practices and delivering a superior customer experience.

Adopting DevOps methodologies and innovative practices

The collaboration centres around Red Hat Open Innovation Labs, where Globe’s engineers engaged in an immersive residency program. This initiative enabled Globe to integrate cutting-edge open-source technologies, including Red Hat OpenShift, the industry-leading hybrid cloud application platform powered by Kubernetes. By adopting DevOps methodologies and innovative practices, Globe tackled critical challenges in operational efficiency, developer productivity, observability, upskilling, and cross-team collaboration.

Through this partnership, Globe successfully migrated its first application modules to Red Hat OpenShift in record time, enabling the teams to quickly leverage the platform’s full capabilities. The collaboration also facilitated the creation of a cross-functional team and the establishment of new operational processes, laying the groundwork for scaling the platform and migrating the first full application within the next six months.

Our collaboration with Red Hat Open Innovation Labs has been instrumental in our digital transformation journey. By adopting Red Hat OpenShift as a new enterprise-wide application development platform, we’re able to innovate quicker with a key focus on customer experience. This collaboration has ignited a change in Globe’s culture, fostering greater teamwork and allowing us to bring the best ideas forward to innovate faster.

Raul Macatangay, Chief Information Officer at Globe

The benefits of this partnership have been significant for Globe:

    • Test-driven development and automation reduced test execution time by 80%, allowing for more frequent testing and the elimination of manual reporting.
    • A GitOps-based cloud-native approach accelerated resource provisioning by 75% through zero-touch provisioning, self-healing, and auto-scaling capabilities.
    • Zero downtime cluster upgrades ensured high availability of Globe’s platform with more consistent and easier-to-implement life cycle management.
    • Future-ready infrastructure has been established, enabling Globe to more easily develop and deploy AI-enabled applications.

As Globe continues its evolution from a traditional telecommunications provider to a technology-driven enterprise, the adoption of Red Hat OpenShift is proving to be a cornerstone of this transformation. The platform provides a resilient, stable foundation that supports Globe’s ultimate goal of delivering enhanced customer experiences.

Setting the stage for the next phase of Globe’s digital transformation

Raul Macatangay, chief information officer at Globe, emphasised the impact of this partnership: “Our collaboration with Red Hat Open Innovation Labs has been instrumental in our digital transformation journey. By adopting Red Hat OpenShift as a new enterprise-wide application development platform, we’re able to innovate quicker with a key focus on customer experience. This collaboration has ignited a change in Globe’s culture, fostering greater teamwork and allowing us to bring the best ideas forward to innovate faster.”

John Rodel Villa, Lead Cloud Engineer at Globe, highlighted the operational benefits: “Our work with Red Hat Open Innovation Labs has allowed us to leverage cutting-edge cloud technologies, particularly with Red Hat OpenShift, to optimise our infrastructure for scalability and resilience. The controlled loop fundamentals of the platform have made operationalising applications much easier, allowing us to focus more on providing a better customer experience rather than constantly fixing problems. This has significantly reduced our time-to-market, enabling us to deliver enhanced services to our customers with greater efficiency.”
