Eastern Communications, a leading telecommunications provider in the Philippines, has announced its support for the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) Bayang Digital initiative, a landmark project aimed at enhancing digital infrastructure and connectivity nationwide.

Launched in conjunction with National ICT Month, the DICT’s “Bayang Digital ang Bagong Pilipinas” initiative envisions a digitally connected nation where technology streamlines government services, enhances cyber safety, and fosters innovation and growth opportunities for all Filipinos.

Eastern Communications is proud to support the DICT for its Bayang Digital initiative. We believe that ICT is the cornerstone of a thriving digital nation, and by working together, we can empower Filipinos to participate fully in the opportunities of the digital industry.

Eastern Communications is committed to advancing this vision by providing cutting-edge connectivity solutions to support government-led efforts in building a digitally inclusive society and spurring economic growth.

“Eastern Communications is proud to support the DICT for its Bayang Digital initiative. We believe that ICT is the cornerstone of a thriving digital nation, and by working together, we can empower Filipinos to participate fully in the opportunities of the digital industry,” said Edsel Paglinawan, Vice President and Head of Product and Innovation at Eastern Communications.

Driving national ICT development

The Bayang Digital initiative encourages active collaboration between the academe and the private sector to advance national information and communication technology (ICT) development, showcase Filipino achievements in ICT, and gather public feedback to shape the national ICT agenda.

A key focus of the initiative is the adoption and use of digitally transformed government services, aimed at creating a more efficient and accessible system. This effort is part of a broader government push to turn key cities into centers of excellence for the information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) industry, as well as to deploy programs like the Digital Innovation for Women Advancement (DIWA), which aims to close the gender gap in the digital workforce.

The other mandate of the DICT is also about universal access, our connectivity, ensuring that connectivity is also inclusive. My goal is to make the Philippines a leader in the discussions around digital inclusion.

Atty. Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, DICT Undersecretary for ICT Industry Development

In an exclusive interview on Eastern Communications’ “Thoughts on Tech” podcast series, DICT Undersecretary for ICT Industry Development, Atty. Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, highlighted the importance of inclusivity in the ICT sector, noting that only 29% to 30% of women in the Philippines are currently in ICT roles, with even lower figures in other countries.

“The other mandate of the DICT is also about universal access, our connectivity, ensuring that connectivity is also inclusive. My goal is to make the Philippines a leader in the discussions around digital inclusion,” said Atty. Jocelle Batapa-Sigue.

Other initiatives under the Bayang Digital program include generating digital jobs outside Metro Manila, distributing the Philippine Skills Framework, and building talent to fill digital industry roles.
