PC industry is riding the AI wave
PC makers have been in the doldrums since the end of the boom in work-from-home study sales during the pandemic. The industry has pinned its hopes for a revival on a new generation of laptops and desktops with more powerful chips that can handle AI tasks, such as summarising documents, without having to send data to the cloud.
Intel is preparing such chips, as are competitors, including Qualcomm. Earlier reports said that Nvidia also plans to use its advantages in AI chips to launch new chips as early as 2025 to enter the PC market.
According to Bloomberg, Apple plans to highlight the artificial intelligence processing capabilities of the new chips and how they will be integrated with the next version of macOS. The news comes ahead of Apple’s annual developer conference in June, with reports suggesting the iPhone maker could announce new AI partnerships and reveal major changes to iOS.
