UMAM strengthens international education ties with muti-agencies

Strengthening ties with Malaysia and Indonesia

On March 3, 2025, UMAM Rector Dr. H. Saidul Amin and PP Muhammadiyah Chairman Prof. Dr. Haedar Nashir met with Malaysia’s Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss the strengthening of educational cooperation. The meeting highlighted UMAM’s role in modern Islamic education, with Prime Minister Ibrahim reaffirming his full support for UMAM’s vision of advancing global Islamic education. The discussions also included an invitation for Prime Minister Ibrahim to deliver a keynote speech at Muhammadiyah’s anniversary celebration in 2025, showcasing the ongoing collaboration between Indonesia and Malaysia in the field of education.

Visit from PDM Rokan Hulu

On February 21, 2025, Akhiruddin Nasution, leader of the Regional Leadership of Muhammadiyah (PDM) Rokan Hulu, visited UMAM to explore further academic collaborations. This visit allowed both parties to discuss the progress of Muhammadiyah’s efforts in Malaysia, focusing on education, da’wah, and social programs. Nasution emphasised the importance of synergy between Muhammadiyah institutions in Indonesia and Malaysia and expressed his appreciation for UMAM’s achievements in promoting Islamic education at an international level.

Expanding academic collaborations with Thailand

UMAM continues to extend its international academic network, with a new collaboration with Songserm Wittaya Islamic School in Thailand formalised on February 6, 2025. The partnership aims to enhance academic exchanges and broaden global learning opportunities within the ASEAN region. Through this collaboration, UMAM seeks to strengthen educational ties with neighbouring countries and provide students with the skills needed to excel in a globalised educational landscape.
