Leader Net Services Sarl: Navigating Guinea’s telecom landscape
International operators like Orange and the state-run former MTN/Areeba dominate Guinea’s telecom market. Fixed broadband remains limited and expensive. Guinea completed a national backbone network in 2020 and saw fibre expansion between 17 and 26% in recent years. Guinéenne de Fibre Optique (GFO) was licensed in March 2023 to provide wholesale interconnection. The World Bank supported this with a $60 million loan to strengthen backbone capacity.
Smaller operators such as Sotelgui are restructuring or relaunching. Leader Net competes in a market with slow fixed-line uptake, infrastructure bottlenecks, and regulatory uncertainty. Guinea relies heavily on a single undersea cable for international connectivity.
