Snowflake, the Data Cloud Company, has joined forces with NVIDIA to enable businesses to harness the power of generative AI applications within the Snowflake Data Cloud.

Snowflake, the Data Cloud Company, has joined forces with NVIDIA to enable

businesses to harness the power of generative AI applications within the Snowflake

Data Cloud. The partnership, announced at the Snowflake Summit 2023, offers a

platform for businesses to create customized generative AI applications — powered by

Snowflake’s own proprietary data.

By integrating NVIDIA’s NeMo platform for large language models (LLMs) and GPU-

accelerated computing with Snowflake’s capabilities, enterprises gain the ability to

develop LLMs for advanced generative AI services such as chatbots, search

functionality, and summarization. This collaboration allows businesses of all sizes to

leverage their data stored in Snowflake accounts to build tailored LLMs without

compromising data security.

Frank Slootman, CEO of Snowflake, expressed excitement about the partnership,

stating:

“Snowflake’s partnership with NVIDIA will bring high-performance machine learning and

artificial intelligence to our vast volumes of proprietary and structured enterprise data, a

new frontier in bringing unprecedented insights, predictions, and prescriptions to the

global world of business.”

AI Powered by Massive Data

Jensen Huang, founder, and CEO of NVIDIA emphasised the significance of data in

developing generative AI applications:

“Data is essential to creating generative AI applications that understand the complex

operations and unique voice of every company.” He further added, “Together, NVIDIA and

Snowflake will create an AI factory that helps enterprises turn their own valuable data into

custom generative AI models to power groundbreaking new applications — right from the

cloud platform that they use to run their businesses.”

The collaboration between NVIDIA and Snowflake presents a unique opportunity for

enterprises to utilize cutting-edge proprietary data. These massive data, ranging from

hundreds of terabytes to petabytes, can be used to build and fine-tune custom LLMs for

business-specific applications. This integration of AI technology enables customers to

develop quickly and easily, deploy, and manage customized applications across various

use cases. The result is reduced cost and latency, while ensuring data security.

Alexander Harrowell, principal analyst for advanced computing for AI at technology

research group Omdia, highlighted the significance of businesses training or fine-tuning

their own AI models, stating that it is becoming a trend as enterprises increasingly value

their data assets. The partnership between Snowflake and NVIDIA aligns with this trend,

providing enterprises with a substantial opportunity in the sector.

Ground-shaking Across Industries

The collaboration extends to various industries, including healthcare, retail, financial

services, and more. With over 8,000 customers worldwide, Snowflake’s Data Cloud

empowers enterprises to utilize the full power of data across their organizations. It also

offers industry-specific Data Clouds catering to private enterprises and even the

government and education sectors.

Snowflake’s unified platform, coupled with NVIDIA’s NeMo, allows customers to build

and deploy custom LLMs for generative AI applications such as healthcare insurance

models that provide coverage information, or financial services models that offer

tailored lending opportunities based on specific circumstances.

Snowflake plans to host and run NeMo within the Snowflake Data Cloud, enabling

customers to develop and deploy custom LLMs for generative AI applications such as

chatbots and intelligent search. The inclusion of NeMo Guardrails software ensures that

applications align with business-specific topics, while keeping safety and security at the

forefront.

Substantial co-engineering efforts are underway to integrate the NVIDIA AI engine into

Snowflake’s Data Cloud, further enhancing the capabilities of generative AI applications.

NVIDIA’s commitment extends beyond software offerings. The collaboration aims to

integrate the NVIDIA AI engine into Snowflake’s Data Cloud, enhancing the capabilities

of generative AI applications and reinforcing the transformative potential of AI across

industries.
