  • Nvidia plans to release a new family of AI chips annually, according to Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s CEO, Sunday at a keynote address in Taipei.
  • Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang announced the Blackwell Ultra chip for 2025 and the Rubin chip platform for 2026, speeding up their upgrading.

Nvidia, an American multinational corporation and technology company, plans to introduce a new series of AI chips every year updating their schedule of every two years, according to Jensen Huang at a keynote address ahead of the Computex trade show in Taiwan.

Next-generation Rubin platform

Nvidia expects to launch the Blackwell Ultra chip in 2025, followed by the next-generation Rubin chip platform in 2026, featuring new GPUs and a new, Arm-based CPU called Vera. “Our company has a one-year rhythm,” he said, according to an Nvidia blog post. Previously, the company had launched new chips about every two years. Huang offered few other details, but indicated that the chip-maker’s accelerated pace is due to the great leaps in AI technology.

Nvidia chips and the company

Nvidia chips uses less energy and drives down costs, said Huang. “With our innovations in AI and accelerated computing, we’re pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and driving the next wave of technological advancement,” he added. “Accelerated computing is sustainable computing,” he said, pointing out how Nvidia’s advanced chips offer much greater speed with a minimal rise in power consumption.

Nvidia still plays a leading role in the market for advanced AI chips. Its stock slipped about 1% on Friday, but is up nearly 25% over the past month, and has surged 121% year to date.
