ChatGPT gets its own key as Microsoft brings AI to Windows 11

  • Microsoft is preparing another major update to its flagship operating system, with new AI tools that will allow it to monetize Windows 11 feature more quickly.
  • The ChatGPT-based tool gets its own dedicated key on the keyboards of new Windows PCs shipping this year.

Microsoft has unveiled a substantial update to Windows 11, introducing numerous new features and enhancements aimed at enhancing the overall user experience. This latest update integrates a wide range of AI-powered functionalities into various aspects of the operating system, catering to the diverse needs and preferences of users.

Rapid progress in AI advancements

Microsoft’s AI advancements are rapidly progressing, with the ChatGPT-based tool now having its own dedicated key on new Windows PCs. The update introduces the Generative Erase feature to the built-in Photos app, allowing users to easily remove unwanted objects from photos with just a few clicks. This AI-powered functionality, similar to tools on other devices, offers users a seamless way to effortlessly enhance their photos. Additionally, Clipchamp, Microsoft’s video editor, now lets users remove awkward silences from videos, enhancing editing capabilities.

Integration with third-party plugins

Microsoft has introduced plugins that integrate with third-party apps and services. The initial set includes OpenTable,which is for making dinner reservations, and Instacart,which is for creating grocery lists. In the coming month, additional plugins from Shopify, Klarna, and Kayak will be introduced. These plugins serve a dual purpose, enabling Microsoft to monetize user interactions by earning a share of transactions made through partner apps.

Improved connectivity across devices

The update improves content sharing between Windows and Android devices, with faster transfer speeds for Nearby Share and enhanced device recognition. The Phone Link system now enables users to access recent photos and use their phone as a webcam on video conferencing apps, enhancing connectivity and usability across devices. These enhancements demonstrate Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to create a more seamless and intuitive user experience for its global user base.
