OUR TAKE
Singapore’s M1 and Ericsson are shaking up the 5G world with their AI-powered network integration. It’s like when Tesla started automating car production – a game-changer. Remember how Netflix revolutionised streaming with AI-based recommendations? Well, this collaboration could do the same for mobile networks. With AI and ML optimising M1’s IP and microwave networks, we’re in for faster speeds and less lag. It’s a sneak peek into the future where tech runs smoothly, supporting everything from self-driving cars to smarter cities. Let’s see if this PoC hits the mark and inspires other telecom giants to follow suit.

Singapore’s M1 and Ericsson unveil the world’s first AI-powered integration of IP and microwave networks, set to transform 5G infrastructure.

Breakthrough partnership announced

Singapore-based telecommunications provider M1 and global telecommunications leader Ericsson have joined forces to enhance the capacity and performance of M1’s IP and microwave networks. This trailblasing partnership introduces the AI-powered Ericsson Transport Automation Controller, marking the world’s first live network deployment combining IP and microwave networks with cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) capabilities.

M1 is set to undertake a proof of concept (PoC) for both IP and microwave use cases by the end of 2024. The initiative aims to strengthen 5G capabilities, ensuring a high-performance 5G Standalone (SA) network with improved bandwidth, reduced latency, and enhanced connectivity resilience.

Impact on 5G technology

This collaboration signifies a major leap forward in the advancement of 5G technology. By integrating AI and ML into network management, M1 and Ericsson are not only pushing the boundaries of what’s possible but are also setting a new benchmark for the telecommunications industry. This move promises to deliver faster, more reliable mobile services, meeting the growing demands for speed and efficiency driven by increased data consumption and sophisticated applications.

For consumers, this means a more seamless mobile experience, while industries stand to benefit from more robust network support for emerging technologies such as autonomous vehicles and smart cities. The success of this PoC could influence network design and operations globally, showcasing the transformative impact of AI and ML in optimising network performance.

“M1 will conduct a proof of concept for both IP and microwave use cases by the end of 2024. The goal? To bolster 5G capabilities and ensure a high-performance 5G Standalone (SA) network. Expect higher bandwidth, lower latency, and a more resilient underlying transport connectivity!”
