What happened

Apple will reveal its iPhone 16 lineup on September 9, with press invitations already sent out for the event, branded as “It’s Glowtime.” The launch will take place at the Steve Jobs Theatre in Apple Park at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET.

As usual, rumours about what the event will feature have been circulating for weeks. Reports suggest the iPhone 16 lineup will include larger screens for the Pro models and a new button dedicated to taking pictures, aimed at making it easier to capture content in landscape mode. Additionally, all iPhone 16 models are expected to come with the Action Button, previously exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro range.

The event could also introduce the Apple Watch Series 10, which is said to have a larger display and a new chip, along with two new AirPods versions. The new iPhones will likely support Apple’s AI suite, Apple Intelligence.

Additionally, Apple is expected to release iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and watchOS 11 shortly after the event.

Why it’s important

The iPhone is one of the most popular and best-selling smartphones globally. Every new iPhone release generates significant consumer interest, often setting trends in mobile technology and influencing purchasing decisions.

Besides, the anticipated upgrades, such as larger screens and a dedicated photo button, highlight Apple’s commitment to innovation. These features could set new standards for smartphone design and functionality, pushing competitors to adapt.

For economic impact, Apple events, particularly those announcing new products, can significantly impact the company’s stock price. Investors closely monitor these events, as strong sales of new products like the iPhone 16 can boost Apple’s revenue and profitability, further influencing the broader stock market.

Furthermore, the new iPhone models are expected to enhance AI-driven features, which is significant for the advancement of artificial intelligence in everyday devices. This aligns with broader trends in the tech industry where AI is becoming more integrated into consumer products, potentially reshaping the way people interact with technology.
