    • Telekom Deutschland aims to attract MVNOs and brands with streamlined market entry model

What happened: Compax to support Telekom’s TaaS platform

Telekom Deutschland has appointed Compax as its technology partner to develop and operate its new Telco-as-a-Service (TaaS) platform. The agreement follows an extensive vendor selection process. Compax will deliver its full suite of cloud-native Business Support Systems and Operations Support Systems (BSS/OSS) solutions. The scope includes online charging, network integration, mobile core functions, and both wholesale and retail BSS capabilities. Together, these provide all components needed for a ready-to-launch connectivity platform.

Beyond technology provision, Compax will offer fully managed services. These include platform management and business operations support. This applies to Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) and wholesale and retail telecom brands. The Vienna-based company has collaborated with Deutsche Telekom for over 15 years. This latest project marks a significant deepening of their relationship.

The TaaS platform is central to Telekom Deutschland’s strategy of becoming a Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (MVNE). This role allows it to support brands in launching their own connectivity services. With this move, the company aims to streamline how MVNOs and enterprises can enter the German telecom market.

    Why it is important

The launch of the TaaS platform represents a strategic shift for Telekom Deutschland as it looks to modernise its infrastructure and diversify its offerings. By simplifying the pathway for MVNOs and other brands to provide connectivity services, the telco giant is positioning itself to tap into a growing demand for flexible digital communications solutions.

According to Anna Hinken, SVP Mobile Wholesale at Telekom Deutschland, the TaaS platform is “a critical piece of the puzzle” in realising the company’s ambition to become a fully digital telco. Partnering with Compax, she said, ensures the technological depth and operational expertise needed to bring the project to life.

For Compax, the deal solidifies its role as a leading provider of cloud-native BSS/OSS solutions and managed telecom services. As Compax Digital emphasises, its SaaS platform allows telecom providers to adopt innovative software models while outsourcing operational complexity. The project also highlights how telecom incumbents like Deutsche Telekom are evolving to meet the needs of an increasingly service-oriented market.
