T-Mobile modernises operations with Netcracker cloud-native platform

  • T-Mobile has selected Netcracker’s cloud-native digital BSS/OSS platform to accelerate service launches, enhance automation and support digital-first business models across its wholesale operations.
  • The partnership aims to reduce deployment times from months to weeks while improving security and laying the groundwork for future opportunities in AI personalisation, 5G monetisation and IoT services.

What happened: T-Mobile transitions to cloud-native BSS/OSS for agility

T-Mobile has deepened its collaboration with Netcracker Technology by adopting a cloud-native digital business support system (BSS) and operational support system (OSS) platform. This strategic move targets T-Mobile’s wholesale business, which partners with mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) and IoT service providers, and seeks to simplify onboarding, streamline operations and enable more agile service delivery.

Netcracker’s digital platform will replace or augment legacy systems with microservices-based, cloud-centric components that support rapid product launches and enhanced automation. For T-Mobile and its partners, this means the ability to deploy new services in weeks rather than months, a significant acceleration compared with traditional OSS/BSS cycles. The architecture also embeds stronger security and privacy protections across customer interactions, an increasingly important feature as BSS/OSS systems handle sensitive subscriber and billing data.

Bob Titus, Chief Technology Officer at Netcracker, commented that the extended partnership helps T-Mobile deliver “digital-first services customers expect in today’s market,” combining cloud scalability with analytics and automation. This reflects an industry trend in which operators shift from on-premise, monolithic stacks to flexible, API-driven platforms that can adapt to evolving customer demands and market conditions.

The move builds on years of cooperation between the two companies. In the past, T-Mobile and Netcracker have worked together on BSS enhancements, including support for MVNO partner portals and billing platforms, demonstrating a long-term strategic alignment in modernising core operational systems.

Why it’s important

Service providers increasingly view cloud-native BSS/OSS platforms as critical to supporting digital transformation and monetising advanced network capabilities such as 5G and edge computing. For T-Mobile, the shift to a modern platform could improve operational efficiency, lower costs and accelerate time-to-market for both core connectivity offerings and value-added digital services.

The enhanced flexibility also positions T-Mobile’s wholesale business to compete more effectively by offering partners better customisation, billing agility and integrated service management. Moreover, this upgrade sets the stage for integration of AI-driven personalisation and analytics that can tailor customer experiences and support dynamic service offerings — from IoT connectivity to private networks.

In a broader context, telecoms operators worldwide are moving toward cloud-native BSS/OSS ecosystems to overcome legacy constraints and foster innovation. T-Mobile’s adoption exemplifies how digital transformation in core systems can underpin strategic growth and service diversification in the evolving telecom landscape.
