  • STACK Infrastructure has introduced a new skills and training academy focused on data centre operations.
  • The initiative aims to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the data centre industry.

What happened: STACK infrastructure introduces skills academy

On 2 April 2025, STACK Infrastructure announced the launch of the STACK Academy, a strategic initiative aimed at mitigating critical skills shortages within the data centre industry across EMEA. The academy plans to offer specialised training pathways in countries including Italy, Norway, and Switzerland, with an initial cohort of 55 participants set for 2025. The 18-month programme combines theoretical instruction with practical, on-the-job training, encompassing areas such as data centre construction, operations, and health and safety.

This blended learning approach integrates instructor-led sessions, self-paced study modules, and hands-on project-based experiences. Additionally, the curriculum includes components focused on ‘soft skills’ and behavioural development, aligning with STACK’s core values: Clients, Consideration, and Community. This initiative builds upon successful programmes previously implemented in Italy over the past two years.

Why it is important

The establishment of the STACK Academy is a significant development in tackling the persistent skills gap within the data centre sector. As digital infrastructure becomes increasingly vital to modern society, the demand for proficient professionals to manage and operate data centres has surged. By proactively developing a skilled workforce, STACK Infrastructure is not only enhancing its own operational capabilities but also contributing to the broader industry’s sustainability.

Furthermore, the academy’s focus on engaging local communities and promoting diversity is expected to foster a more inclusive workforce, addressing the underrepresentation of certain groups in the tech industry. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to enhance social mobility and provide equitable career opportunities within the rapidly evolving digital infrastructure landscape.
