    • James Tyler to lead Equinix’s UK operations from April 2025
    • UK market contributes 25% of EMEA revenue and over $1.4bn to UK economy

What happened: Equinix names James Tyler as new UK managing director

Equinix, the global digital infrastructure company, has appointed James Tyler as its new Managing Director for the United Kingdom, effective April 2025. The appointment places Tyler at the helm of Equinix’s largest EMEA market, which spans 14 facilities across London and Manchester.

The UK operations play a crucial role within Equinix’s EMEA strategy, accounting for approximately 25% of the region’s revenue and generating over $1.4 billion in gross added economic value to the UK economy, according to a KPMG assessment report. Tyler’s leadership is expected to reinforce Equinix’s influence in a rapidly evolving digital economy.

Tyler joined Equinix in 2016 after serving as Chief Commercial Officer at TelecityGroup, where he contributed to the company’s $3.8 billion acquisition by Equinix. Over the years, he has led human resources across EMEA and supported strategic transformation initiatives globally. His role in navigating the business through the COVID-19 pandemic was particularly noted for maintaining continuity and reinforcing stakeholder trust.

In a statement, Tyler expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity, citing the company’s growth trajectory and the strength of its partner ecosystem: “Our unique position, combined with sector expertise, a skilled team, and a strong partner network, enables us to deliver innovative solutions that will drive the UK economy forward.”

Tyler replaces Bruce Owen, who now focuses exclusively on his role as Equinix’s President for EMEA. Owen praised the appointment, emphasising Tyler’s strategic vision and ability to meet customer demands in a shifting digital landscape.

    Why it’s important

Equinix’s decision to appoint James Tyler as UK Managing Director marks a significant leadership shift within one of the company’s most economically impactful markets. The UK region not only represents the largest revenue-generating segment in EMEA but also plays a pivotal role in Equinix’s broader global strategy. With 14 facilities in London and Manchester, the UK serves as a key hub for digital infrastructure, interconnection services, and data centre operations.

Tyler brings extensive industry experience and institutional knowledge. His career spans high-profile roles, including his tenure at TelecityGroup and almost a decade at Equinix, where he spearheaded HR transformation and M&A efforts across global markets. His understanding of organisational dynamics, combined with a proven ability to manage growth and change, positions him well to lead the UK business into its next phase.

The timing of the appointment is also significant. As demand for digital infrastructure continues to rise, Equinix faces mounting pressure to deliver scalable, sustainable solutions that support enterprises in a post-pandemic economy. Tyler’s leadership will likely focus on expanding local capacity, maintaining operational excellence, and strengthening client relationships to meet those demands.

Furthermore, with Bruce Owen shifting fully to his EMEA role, Equinix is aligning its executive team to streamline decision-making across the region, ensuring agility in addressing market-specific challenges and opportunities.
