  • Crusoe and atNorth increase ICE02 data centre capacity to 57MW, enhancing Crusoe Cloud’s AI capabilities.
  • The expansion leverages Iceland’s renewable energy sources to support sustainable AI workloads.

What happened: Crusoe and atNorth increase ICE02 capacity to 57MW

In order improve Crusoe Cloud’s capacity at atNorth‘s ICE02 facility in Iceland, Crusoe, a provider of AI infrastructure, has expanded its collaboration with Nordic data centre operator atNorth. Currently, 33 megawatts (MW) are increased by 24 MW as part of this expansion, establishing the total 57 MW. Crusoe’s effort to sustainable AI infrastructure is reflected in the ICE02 data centre, which resides close to Keflavík, Iceland, and is powered simply by renewable geothermal and hydroelectric energy sources. The intention of the expansion is to meet the increasing need for AI services from customers in North America and Europe. The most recent expansion indicates a major step in scaling Crusoe Cloud’s capabilities, and the partnership first became public in December 2023.

Why this is important

The increasing requirement for sustainable AI infrastructure is brought out by Crusoe Cloud’s expansion at ICE02. The collaboration tackles the need for scalable AI computing power and also addresses environmental concerns by taking advantage of Iceland’s available renewable energy resources. This action is in line with general industry trends where businesses are attempting to strike a balance between the goals of sustainability and technologies improvements. Crusoe and atNorth’s partnership displays the growing impact of energy-efficient data centres in assisting AI workloads, which are notoriously energy-intensive. Such collaborations are probably goes to increase in regularity as AI applications spread, building a standard for further progress in the field.
