    • TESPOK represents Kenya’s leading telecom companies, working to promote industry standards and address regulatory challenges.
    • The Kenyan telecom industry faces increasing competition, evolving technology, and regulatory hurdles, all of which TESPOK seeks to address.

    TESPOK: Supporting Kenya’s telecom sector

The Telecommunication Service Providers Association of Kenya (TESPOK) is a key industry body representing the interests of Kenya’s telecommunications service providers. Established to advocate for the growth and development of the telecom sector, TESPOK works closely with the government, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to influence policy and promote sustainable practices within the industry.

TESPOK’s members include major players such as Safaricom, Airtel Kenya, Telkom Kenya, and others, who rely on the association to navigate the regulatory landscape and ensure their voices are heard. The association also supports the adoption of industry standards and best practices to drive innovation and improve service delivery.

In addition to advocating for favourable policies, TESPOK addresses challenges facing the sector, such as the increasing demand for data, mobile money services, and the digital divide. The association plays a critical role in creating awareness around the importance of connectivity for economic development and digital inclusion across Kenya.

TESPOK’s role in shaping telecom policy

TESPOK is central in shaping telecommunications policies in Kenya. Its role extends beyond advocacy, providing expert advice and facilitating dialogue between service providers and government agencies. TESPOK ensures that the telecom sector’s needs are considered in policy formulation, particularly regarding issues like spectrum allocation, taxes, and regulation of mobile financial services.

With the rapid growth of mobile money, TESPOK has also played a vital role in promoting digital financial inclusion. Through initiatives such as the Mobile Money Association of Kenya (MMAK), TESPOK has been at the forefront of discussions on the regulatory frameworks needed to ensure the sector remains robust and secure.

The association works with key regulatory bodies like the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) and the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), representing its members’ interests and ensuring fair competition in the marketplace.
