What happened: Samsung and Nvidia join forces to advance AI-RAN

Samsung has partnered with Nvidia to strengthen its AI-RAN capabilities, integrating Samsung’s virtualised RAN (vRAN) solutions with Nvidia’s accelerated computing technology. The collaboration aims to expand the AI-RAN semiconductor ecosystem, addressing growing industry demand.

AI-RAN leverages AI and machine learning to optimise network efficiency and performance. Nvidia’s GPUs provide the necessary acceleration for these workloads, complementing Samsung’s vRAN software. The move positions Samsung as a strong competitor against Nokia, Ericsson, Cisco, and HPE in the AI-RAN market.

The announcement follows increased industry interest in AI-RAN, with SoftBank, T-Mobile US, and Verizon all investing in similar initiatives. Samsung’s recent AI-driven deployments with Verizon and UScellular highlight its growing traction in the AI-powered telecom sector.

Why it’s important

AI-RAN technology is shaping the future of telecom networks, offering improved resource allocation, lower operational costs, and enhanced performance. By leveraging AI-powered network automation, operators can optimise spectrum use, reduce energy consumption, and improve service quality.

Samsung’s collaboration with Nvidia strengthens its AI-driven telecom offerings, making it a viable alternative to industry leaders. With rising global interest in AI-RAN, telecom providers are increasingly exploring AI-based solutions for 5G and future network deployments.

As industry leaders like Nokia, Ericsson, and SoftBank continue investing in AI-powered RAN, Samsung’s partnership with Nvidia signals a strategic push to establish itself as a frontrunner in AI-driven telecom infrastructure.
