Salesforce has announced a definitive agreement to acquire cloud data management company Informatica for approximately $8 billion. The deal involves paying $25 per share in cash, representing a 30% premium over Informatica’s closing price prior to the announcement. This acquisition aims to enhance Salesforce’s Agentforce platform by integrating Informatica’s data integration, governance, and management tools, thereby supporting the development of autonomous AI agents.

Why it’s important

This strategic move underscores Salesforce’s commitment to advancing its AI capabilities by securing a robust data foundation. By integrating Informatica’s services, Salesforce aims to offer a comprehensive, agent-ready data platform, enhancing its position in the competitive enterprise AI market.

The acquisition also reflects Salesforce’s broader strategy to expand its AI-driven services, following previous significant acquisitions like Slack and Tableau. Analysts view this deal as a calculated step to bolster Salesforce’s data infrastructure, essential for the effective deployment of AI technologies.
