  • The partnership introduces AI-ready, autonomous network management to optimise performance and reduce operational costs.
  • Energy-efficient AirScale and MantaRay solutions will support 5G coverage for over three million Danish subscribers.

What happened: Nokia signs a four-year extension with TNN Denmark to upgrade its 5G network

Nokia has signed a four-year contract extension with TNN, Denmark’s largest shared mobile network, to continue as the sole supplier of 5G radio access networks (RAN) and managed services. TNN is a joint venture between Norlys and Telenor.

Under the new agreement, Nokia will modernise TNN’s 5G infrastructure using its AI-ready AirScale portfolio, including Habrok Massive MIMO radios and Pandion multi-band remote radio heads. Advanced AirScale baseband solutions — Ponente, Lodos, and Levante — powered by ReefShark System-on-Chip technology, will enhance network scalability, efficiency, and coverage.

The deal also integrates Nokia’s MantaRay SON and MantaRay AutoPilot for self-organising and AI-driven network optimisation, enabling autonomous traffic management, improved performance, and reduced operational costs. The upgrades aim to deliver faster, more reliable 5G services to more than three million subscribers across Denmark.

Why it’s important

The collaboration represents a step forward in Denmark’s digital transformation, providing a platform for advanced 5G services, new digital applications, and business innovation. With AI-driven automation, TNN can optimise network performance in real time, reducing operational complexity and costs.

The deployment of energy-efficient equipment also aligns with sustainability goals, supporting greener telecom infrastructure. Moreover, this upgrade strengthens Nokia’s role as a trusted 5G technology partner in Europe, showcasing the potential of AI-powered RAN to improve customer experiences and expand service capabilities.

While Denmark benefits from increased network resilience and coverage, the broader industry may watch closely to see how AI and automation reshape operational efficiency in large-scale 5G deployments, potentially serving as a model for other European networks.
