OUR TAKE
M1’s investment in future talent through SgIS is smart, mirroring how giants like Google fund scholarships to stay ahead. Janson Chia’s journey shows how companies can build tomorrow’s leaders today, driving digital progress in Singapore.

M1, a Singaporean telecommunications company, is taking significant steps to future-proof its organisation by investing in its most valuable asset—its people. As part of this commitment, M1 is proud to support the Singapore-Industry Scholarship (SgIS) programme, which aims to nurture future talent in various industries.

In a ceremony held last week at the National University of Singapore (NUS), M1’s very own scholar, Janson Chia, was among the distinguished recipients of the SgIS award. The event was graced by Singapore’s Minister for Education, Chan Chun Sing, highlighting the importance of this initiative in shaping the future of Singapore’s workforce.

Janson Chia, who will begin his undergraduate degree in Information Systems at NUS in the 2025 academic year, represents M1’s commitment to fostering the next generation of industry leaders. The scholarship not only provides financial support but also opens doors for Janson to gain valuable industry experience and insights, aligning with M1’s strategic focus on talent development.

By supporting talents like Janson Chia, M1 is not just securing its own future but also contributing to the broader development of Singapore’s digital economy.

This initiative reflects M1’s broader strategy of placing people at the heart of its operations. As the company looks forward to the positive impact that Janson and his fellow scholars will bring, it also reinforces the critical role that education and industry collaboration play in building a resilient and innovative workforce for the future.
