  • Huawei’s Mate XT has over 4 million pre-orders, showcasing strong consumer interest despite its $2,800 price tag.
  • The launch highlights Huawei’s resilience against U.S. sanctions and its competitive edge over Apple in the Chinese market.

OUR TAKE
Huawei’s Mate XT represents a significant innovation in the smartphone market, notably with its tri-fold design and AI capabilities. However, its high price may limit its broader appeal. Nonetheless, it signals Huawei’s ambition to challenge Apple and establish itself as a tech leader, especially in China, where consumers are increasingly critical of competitors.

What happened

On September 10, Huawei launched its new tri-foldable smartphone, Mate XT, priced at $2,800, during an event in Shenzhen. With over 4 million pre-orders already, the device features a unique accordion-style fold and advanced AI functions supported by Huawei‘s Kylin chips.

This launch comes just after Apple introduced its iPhone 16. Despite its high price, analysts believe Huawei aims to solidify its position in the smartphone market, particularly in China, showcasing its ability to innovate despite ongoing U.S. sanctions.

Why it’s important

The news provides valuable insights into the competitive landscape of the smartphone industry, particularly between Huawei and Apple. The timely release of the phone by Huawei, following the release of the iPhone by Apple, provides context for understanding changes in consumer preferences.

The news captures the significance of Huawei’s efforts to regain momentum and challenge established players, reflecting broader trends in technology and market dynamics. Huawei’s innovative progress and market leadership are evident, but concerns about the phone’s price and potential production limitations are also reflected.
