Huawei Cloud named Sub‑Saharan hybrid cloud leader

    • The accolade is based on a detailed independent assessment of technology leadership and market performance.
    • The recognition comes as cloud & hybrid‑cloud demand surges across African telcos and enterprises.

What happened: Huawei Cloud was named Sub‑Saharan Africa’s top hybrid cloud provider

At AfricaCom 2025, analyst firm GlobalData unveiled its white paper “Unleashing the Potential of Carrier‑Grade Hybrid Cloud in Sub‑Saharan Africa 2025”, which evaluated providers across thirteen countries and 25 major telecom carriers. According to the study, Huawei Cloud secured the number one position in its category, based on both technology leadership and market performance. For technology leadership, the firm topped seven major categories including “Platform & Control”, “Professional Services” and “AI & Big Data”. For market performance, it achieved the highest rating in “market presence” and “market differentiation” among its peers. The competition included well‑known vendors such as Microsoft (ranked second), AWS and Google. The study cited Huawei Cloud’s deep telco expertise and industry‑specific hybrid‑cloud solutions as key advantages.

    Why it’s important

The award underscores how hybrid cloud is rapidly becoming foundational for telcos and enterprises in Africa, especially as mobile‑data volumes grow, fibre‑network roll‑out advances and AI‑driven applications proliferate. By claiming the top spot, Huawei Cloud bolsters its credentials in a market that values both carrier‑grade reliability and cloud‑native agility. This positions the company to become a strategic partner for African service providers seeking to build secure, intelligent and scalable digital platforms. Moreover, the recognition is a strong signal that the contours of Africa’s cloud‑market competition are shifting — where regional strengths in telco‑cloud convergence may trump pure hyperscale‑cloud incumbents. However, translating recognition into widespread deployment will require navigating connectivity, regulatory and skills‑ecosystem challenges endemic to many Sub‑Saharan countries. If Huawei Cloud and its partners can overcome these barriers, the result could be a major leap forward in how digital services are provisioned across the continent.
