AT&T passes 30 million fibre locations milestone

  • AT&T now reaches over 30 million homes and businesses with its fibre network, midway to its goal of 60 million by 2030.
  • The milestone paves the way for accelerated revenue growth from fibre services and supports AT&T’s convergence strategy.

What happened: AT&T reaches 30 million fibre locations across the U.S.

AT&T has extended its fibre-broadband network to over 30 million homes and businesses across the U.S., reaching this milestone ahead of schedule. This places AT&T halfway towards its 2030 target of covering approximately 60 million locations. The expansion comprises organically built network, joint ventures like Gigapower, open-access arrangements, public‑private partnerships, and an upcoming acquisition of Lumen’s consumer fibre business.

Why it’s important

The achievement highlights AT&T’s continued push to compete in the high-speed broadband market amid growing demand for reliable connectivity. While the company reports strong momentum, questions remain about the affordability of its offerings, especially in underserved areas. The reliance on a mix of private investment and public partnerships also raises concerns over long-term control and pricing in the expanded network. AT&T’s planned acquisition of Lumen’s consumer fibre assets, still pending regulatory approval, is expected to accelerate its growth in new markets and deepen its national footprint.
