First day kick‑off at APAN60 in hong kong

Day one of APAN60 officially begins today in Hong Kong, with opening remarks delivered by the APAN chair and key dignitaries from the Asia‑Pacific research network community. Delegates gathered at the Grand Hyatt Wanchai ballroom to welcome the conference running from 28 July to 1 August 2025. A stirring keynote introduced Asia‑Pacific connectivity priorities, digital research infrastructure and cross‑border collaboration as the central themes of the week.

Sessions and highlights: keynote, tutorial and labs

The morning keynote set the tone, emphasising collaborative networking and next‑gen research infrastructure. Following this, attendees dispersed into sister events — a hands‑on workshop on AI‑driven network security, a tutorial on IPv6 deployment strategies and a lightning talk session featuring emerging researchers. One lab session on automated DDoS detection using IoT‑level threat data received enthusiastic participation, highlighting APAN’s focus on practical innovation.

What’s next: afternoon briefings and early takeaways

The afternoon programme continues with breakout round‑tables exploring grid‑computing and open‑science frameworks, plus regional policy panels. A training on research data federation and a poster showcase featuring student teams capped the day. Audience reflections so far praise the mix of foundational tutorials with cutting‑edge labs. The opening day wraps up with an evening networking reception overlooking Victoria Harbour, setting the stage for deeper technical exchange in the days ahead.
