Airtel has successfully landed the SEA-ME-WE 6 (Southeast Asia-Middle East-West Europe-6) subsea cable in Chennai, a major milestone in expanding its international network. The proposed 21,700 km-long optical fibre submarine cable will connect India to Singapore and Marseille, France, significantly enhancing India’s connectivity to critical regions in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Western Europe. The cable, which was already landed in Mumbai on December 30, 2024, is expected to become operational by 2026.
This landing in Chennai complements Airtel’s growing network infrastructure and is a key investment in the company’s global strategy. SEA-ME-WE 6 will offer an impressive capacity of 220 Terabits per second (TBPs) of bandwidth, making it a vital addition to Airtel’s international connectivity offerings.
