  • The nomination period for ICANN Board Seat 10 will officially close on December 16, 2024.
  • Eligible applicants are urged to submit their nominations promptly to be considered.

What happened

The Number Resource Organization (NRO) has issued a reminder that the nomination period for ICANN Board Seat 10 will close on December 16, 2024. This nomination process is part of ICANN’s regular selection procedure for board members, specifically for Seat 10, which is designated for representatives of the Address Supporting Organization (ASO). The ASO plays a significant role in managing internet number resources globally, working closely with ICANN to ensure fair allocation and governance.

The open nomination period allows qualified candidates to submit their applications for consideration. The eventual appointee will represent the ASO on ICANN’s Board of Directors, participating in decisions that shape the global management of internet resources. The NRO has emphasized the importance of meeting the deadline to ensure a transparent and timely selection process. This milestone marks a critical step in maintaining the continuity of ICANN’s governance structure.

Why it is important

The nomination and selection of ICANN Board Seat 10 is crucial for maintaining a balanced and representative governance structure at ICANN. As the internet continues to expand, managing its foundational resources—such as IP addresses and autonomous system numbers—requires informed decision-making and effective global coordination. Seat 10 represents the interests of the ASO, making it vital to ensure that the individual selected understands the complexities of internet number resource management and global policy development.

ICANN’s decisions affect not only technical operations but also the broader internet ecosystem, including businesses, governments, and end-users. By engaging in a transparent and thorough nomination process, ICANN ensures that its board reflects diverse perspectives and expertise. This process upholds the organization’s commitment to accountability and inclusivity in internet governance. The final appointee for Seat 10 will have a direct impact on the policies and strategies shaping the future of the internet.
