  • The conference featured technical workshops, policy discussions, and the election of a new NRO NC member.
  • Key topics included IPv6 adoption, internet security, and the future of internet governance in the Asia Pacific region.

What happened: APNIC 60 gathers over 500 experts in Da Nang, elects new NRO NC member

APNIC 60, took place from 4 to 11 September 2025 at the Furama Resort in Da Nang, Viet Nam. The event commenced with technical workshops and partner meetings, followed by the main conference from 9 to 11 September. The conference brought together over 500 delegates, including internet and networking experts, industry leaders, and government representatives, to discuss and develop policies related to internet operations.

A significant component of the conference was the election for a seat on the Number Resource Organization Number Council (NRO NC). Devesh Tyagi was elected to serve a two-year term from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027, succeeding Di Ma. The NRO NC plays a crucial role in global policy development and advising the ICANN Board on number resource allocation policy in conjunction with the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs).

Why this is important

For the future of internet governance in the Asia Pacific region, the discussions and results of APNIC 60 are critical. IPv6 adoption has become vital considering increasing demands for internet resources and problems caused by IPv4 depletion. Stakeholders were given the opportunity to speak about concepts and approaches for speeding up IPv6 deployment at the conference. Furthermore, the election of a new NRO NC member promises ongoing regional representation in worldwide policy conversations, which further cements Asia Pacific’s claim on the internet’s future.

In addressing emerging problems surrounding internet governance, the event also pointed out the benefit to collaboration among several stakeholders, which includes governments, executives in businesses, and technology professionals. APNIC 60 enabled to improve the resilience and sustainability of the internet infrastructure in the local region via encouraging a setting of candid interaction and joint effort.
