Zen Internet strengthens broadband infrastructure in Sierra Leone

Zen Internet has emerged as a key player in Sierra Leone’s growing digital economy by delivering broadband connectivity across homes and businesses. Leveraging hybrid wireless and fibre solutions, the company aims to overcome longstanding infrastructure limitations and promote widespread internet access in underserved regions. Zen’s packages target both residential and commercial users, offering flexible plans designed to balance speed and affordability, with options starting from basic 2 Mbps connections to advanced 50 Mbps services.

As the country continues to prioritise digital inclusion, Zen Internet’s expansion reflects Sierra Leone’s broader ambitions to build a knowledge-based society. According to the company, its local presence allows it to understand and address community-specific challenges. By combining scalable technologies with reliable customer service, Zen is not only helping users get online, but also supporting businesses in sectors such as education, health, and finance where digital tools are increasingly essential.

Zen Internet’s innovations face infrastructure and policy hurdles

The internet industry in Sierra Leone still contends with inconsistent power supply, limited backhaul infrastructure, and regulatory constraints. However, Zen Internet’s wireless broadband service has proven particularly valuable in areas where laying fibre is not yet viable. Through its ‘AlwaysOn’ wireless product and managed business connectivity, Zen is attempting to deliver stable service even in remote environments, allowing small enterprises to participate in the digital economy.

While the company has not publicly released user growth figures, demand for its services reflects a broader national push towards digital transformation. Sierra Leone’s digital policy framework has prioritised ICT development, but further collaboration between government and providers will be key to scaling efforts. As Zen continues to invest in both technical infrastructure and local capacity, its role in the country’s connectivity landscape is expected to grow, especially in bridging the urban-rural divide and supporting economic resilience.
