  • Vodafone Egypt, initially Misrfone Telecommunication Company and later Click GSM, entered the Egyptian market in 1998 as the second mobile operator, founded by Vodafone International, Air Touch, and other partners.
  • Since then, it has grown into one of the leading telecom providers in the region, offering a broad array of communication services to a vast subscriber base.

In 2006, Vodafone Egypt launched Vodafone International Services, a subsidiary specialising in business process and IT services outsourcing, employing over 2,200 multilingual staff serving 80 countries. The acquisition of Raya Telecom in 2007 strengthened Vodafone’s mobile communications through Raya’s expertise in fixed-line data and corporate solutions. Vodafone further expanded its digital presence by acquiring Sarmady in 2008, a dominant player in Egypt’s internet content and services sector, positioning Vodafone Egypt at the forefront of data innovation in the market. Over the years, Vodafone Egypt has evolved to become the leading mobile operator in the country, not only in terms of revenue share but also as the top mobile operator in Egypt with the largest customer base. It has achieved this position by providing advanced technologies and cultivating a strong corporate responsibility culture.

Corporate responsibility and community impact

Vodafone Egypt’s reputation and brand value are rooted in Vodafone’s global commitment to responsible, ethical, and honest conduct within the communities it serves. Since its establishment, corporate responsibility has been an integral part of Vodafone Egypt’s operations in the country. To amplify the impact of its corporate responsibility efforts, the Vodafone Egypt Foundation was established in 2003 as a corporate foundation, supporting NGOs and civil society organisations in implementing developmental projects focused on health and education for children, community development, the use of mobile technology for development, and access to communications. Vodafone Egypt is proud to rank highly among Vodafone’s operating companies worldwide in terms of employee engagement and corporate volunteering, delivering impactful corporate responsibility initiatives for its community.

Sustainability and future vision

Vodafone Egypt aims to continue being a market leader in an increasingly connected world, striving towards a fairer, greener, and more inclusive digital society. By leveraging its market expertise, the company seeks to enhance human potential digitally, empower and connect people for a more sustainable lifestyle. Vodafone Egypt is committed to providing diverse products and services that connect and empower, accelerating Egypt’s development. Through paving the way for tomorrow’s technology, the company aspires to redefine how sustainability and development are understood across the region. Vodafone Egypt firmly believes that its operations significantly contribute to the societies in which it operates. Stemming from its core purpose, Vodafone Egypt’s sustainable business strategy underscores its commitment to delivering a substantial positive impact in three key areas: inclusion for all, youth jobs and skills, and environmental stewardship. Each of these areas has the potential to improve the lives of Vodafone Egypt’s customers and the wider society. The delivery of its sustainability strategy is embedded in Vodafone Egypt’s overarching social contract, which outlines the difference the company makes in supporting the communities where it operates. Vodafone Egypt’s social contract is integral to advancing its sustainability initiatives with a structured and coherent approach. It enables the company to forge new partnerships with governments and other stakeholders to tackle some of the most pressing challenges faced by its customers and societies. In return, Vodafone Egypt seeks that governments, policymakers, and regulators adopt a pro-investment, pro-innovation stance to enable network operators to generate sufficient returns on their investments.

CEO of Vodafone Egypt

Mohamed, the current CEO of Vodafone Egypt, previously served as the Consumer Business Unit Director and was a member of the company’s Executive Committee. In this role, his responsibilities encompassed Consumer Marketing, Internet, Pricing and Planning, Brand and Communication, International and Roaming, Customer Insight, Customer Value Management, Sales, and Digital Marketing. Before taking up this position, Mohamed was the Enterprise Business Unit Director for approximately four years, overseeing marketing, sales, technical, and operational aspects of the enterprise business in Egypt.

Mohamed began his career with Vodafone in October 1998, holding various roles including Head of Enterprise Marketing, Head of Internet, VAS and Content, Head of Consumer Marketing, and most recently, Head of Corporate Sales for Vodafone Egypt.

About Vodafone Egypt

Vodafone Egypt, originally established as Misrfone Telecommunication Company and later rebranded as Click GSM, made its debut in the Egyptian telecommunications market in 1998. It was launched as the country’s second mobile operator, following the market leader at the time. The company was founded through a joint venture between Vodafone International, Air Touch, and several other strategic partners. This entry marked a significant milestone in the diversification of Egypt’s telecom sector, offering consumers an alternative to the existing services and setting the stage for increased competition and innovation within the industry. Over the years, Vodafone Egypt has grown to become one of the leading mobile network operators in the region, providing a wide range of communication services to millions of subscribers across the country.
