    Trans-Sahara IT’s Infrastructure Solutions

Operating from its Niamey headquarters, Trans-Sahara IT and Communication has become a key provider of VSAT satellite systems and secure networking solutions for governments and enterprises across West Africa. The company’s recent projects include deploying encrypted communication networks for Niger’s border security agencies and implementing solar-powered internet hubs in Mali’s rural regions.

According to data from Africa Bandwidth Maps, Trans-Sahara now manages over 120 satellite ground stations across five countries. “Their work is filling critical gaps where fibre optic networks can’t reach,” notes telecom analyst Amina Diallo in her 2024 Sahel Connectivity Report. The company’s hybrid power systems – combining solar panels with battery backups – have reduced service outages by 60% compared to traditional diesel generators.

    Industry Challenges and Trans-Sahara’s Adaptations

West Africa’s IT sector faces unique obstacles: satellite bandwidth costs average $3,500 per Mbps/month – triple European rates – while grid electricity remains unreliable. Trans-Sahara has responded by pioneering pay-as-you-go internet models for small businesses and developing low-latency solutions for mining operations in Burkina Faso.

“You can’t apply European solutions here,” explains CTO Harouna Souley in a company case study. “We’ve had to reinvent everything from power systems to payment structures.” The firm’s latest innovation – modular data centres that can operate entirely off-grid – is now being tested by the Nigerian Communications Commission for rural healthcare deployments.
