ARTERIA Networks Corporation has officially launched its leased circuit service, “DynaEther,” from the landing station in Takahagi, Ibaraki Prefecture. This new service provides seamless connectivity between Japan and Canada via the Topaz submarine cable, the first submarine cable to directly connect the two nations.
Supporting the Topaz submarine cable and leased circuit services
The Topaz submarine cable has landing stations in Takahagi, Ibaraki Prefecture, and Shima, Mie Prefecture. In 2020, ARTERIA began developing landing facilities for the Topaz submarine cable in Takahagi, preparing for the launch of its services. As the designated Landing Party for Topaz, ARTERIA manages operations and maintenance at the Takahagi landing station. To meet customer demands for connectivity between Takahagi and major data centres in the Inzai and Tokyo metropolitan areas, ARTERIA has installed a dedicated leased circuit system. This enables DynaEther, a low-latency, high-quality dedicated line service with speeds of up to 100 Gbps, to be delivered quickly to customers.

Enhancing Japan’s digital infrastructure resilience
Historically, international connectivity to Tokyo, Japan’s internet hub, has been concentrated in Minami-boso, Chiba Prefecture. However, until the arrival of Topaz, the Ibaraki region, including Takahagi, had not hosted any submarine cable landings for over a decade. The Topaz landing is expected to distribute international telecommunications traffic across Ibaraki Prefecture, strengthening the resilience of Japan’s digital infrastructure. ARTERIA has been expanding its optical fibre network to offer high-quality services to large-scale data centres in the Inzai area. The launch of leased circuit services for the Topaz cable will allow businesses providing cloud services through these data centres to access the new international submarine cable connection in northern Ibaraki.

In line with the Pacific Connect initiative, ARTERIA’s Takahagi landing station facilities, built for the Topaz cable, are also expected to support future submarine cable projects. This includes new systems developed in collaboration with Google and other partners, as announced on the Google Cloud Blog.
