  • The Social Security System (SSS) offers financial protection to private sector workers, self-employed individuals, and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
  • SSS provides a wide range of benefits, including retirement pensions, disability and sickness assistance, maternity and unemployment support, and funeral benefits.

Social security system (SSS): Range of benefits

SSS members are entitled to a range of benefits based on their contributions and eligibility. The retirement benefit provides monthly pensions for qualified retirees. The disability benefit offers financial assistance to members who suffer permanent disability. For members unable to work due to illness or injury, the sickness benefit offers daily cash allowances. Female members can receive cash assistance during childbirth or miscarriage through the maternity benefit. In cases of involuntary unemployment, SSS provides one-time unemployment support. Additionally, the death and funeral benefits assist the families of deceased members with funeral-related expenses.

Social security system (SSS): Membership and contributions

Membership in the SSS is mandatory for employees in the private sector and voluntary for self-employed individuals and OFWs. Contributions are shared by both employers and employees and are based on the member’s monthly salary credit. Maintaining regular contributions is essential to access the full range of benefits and services offered by SSS.

Social security system (SSS): Digital transformation

To improve accessibility and convenience, SSS has introduced digital platforms such as the My.SSS portal and the SSS Mobile App. These platforms allow members to monitor their contributions, apply for loans or benefits, generate payment reference numbers (PRNs), update personal details, and schedule appointments without the need for in-person visits.
