  • Sibanye-stillwater has acquired Metallix Refining for $82 million, expanding its precious metals recycling operations.
  • The deal strengthens the company’s presence in the circular economy and supports sustainability goals.

Sibanye-stillwater strengthens recycling operations

Sibanye-stillwater, a multinational mining and metals processing group, has expanded its recycling capabilities through the acquisition of Metallix Refining, a U.S.-based precious metals recycler. Metallix operates two processing plants in North Carolina, producing significant quantities of gold, silver, platinum group metals, rhodium, iridium, and copper annually. This move complements Sibanye-stillwater’s existing U.S. recycling facilities in Montana and Pennsylvania, enhancing processing capacity and technical expertise.

The acquisition is expected to improve the company’s logistics network and sourcing flexibility, allowing Sibanye-stillwater to better serve different regions. By integrating Metallix’s operations, the company can optimise recovery rates and contribute to the efficiency of global precious metals supply chains.

Commitment to sustainability at sibanye-stillwater

Sibanye-stillwater’s strategy centres on promoting sustainability through responsible mining and recycling practices. The company aims to generate positive social and environmental impacts via the metals it produces and the way it operates, embedding sustainability into its business model.

Expanding recycling operations with Metallix supports the company’s goal to increase exposure to recycled metals and tailings reprocessing globally. This aligns with its broader strategy to participate actively in the circular economy, reduce carbon intensity, and contribute to the decarbonisation of industrial processes worldwide. By focusing on recycling, Sibanye-stillwater positions itself as a leader in sustainable precious metals production.
