RETN: Commitment to network resilience

RETN, a leading independent global network services provider, has been awarded the Digital Infrastructure Action Award by The Tech Capital. This accolade acknowledges RETN’s proactive approach to enhancing network resilience, particularly in regions facing geopolitical instability and infrastructure challenges.

In response to significant disruptions, such as the 2024 Red Sea cable cuts that affected up to 70% of traffic between Europe and Asia, RETN implemented greater fibre path diversity and integrated terrestrial and subsea networks. In Ukraine, despite missile strikes and power outages, RETN maintained uninterrupted international traffic and launched a DDoS scrubbing centre in Kyiv to provide free cybersecurity protection to local businesses.

Tony O’Sullivan, CEO of RETN, stated, “We believe digital infrastructure is not just about keeping services running—it’s about building long-term resilience, supporting communities, and fostering innovation.”

RETN: Global network and industry challenges

Founded in 2003 and headquartered in London, RETN operates a 140,000 km backbone network with over 875 Points of Presence across Europe, Asia, and the United States. The company offers a range of services, including IP transit, Ethernet and VPN solutions, capacity services, remote peering, colocation, DDoS mitigation, and cloud connectivity.

The digital infrastructure industry faces several challenges, including the need for robust cybersecurity measures, increasing bandwidth demands due to data-intensive applications, and the imperative to bridge the digital divide in underserved regions. Innovations such as integrating renewable energy sources and adopting sustainable practices are essential to address these challenges and ensure the scalability and flexibility of digital infrastructure.

RETN’s recognition with the Tech Capital Digital Infrastructure Action Award underscores its dedication to overcoming these industry challenges and advancing resilient digital networks globally.
