  • Tekno Train showcases advanced communication systems designed by Real World and SimpleMotion.Lighting.
  • The event blends sound, visuals, and motion, offering passengers an interactive Vivid Sydney highlight.
  • Options include the scenic family-friendly journey or the adrenaline-pumping Tek Express thrill ride.

Revolutionising train journeys with Tekno train

Tekno Train, an extraordinary feature of Vivid Sydney 2024, offers an unparalleled fusion of sound, lighting, and movement aboard a commuter train. The project, powered by Red Globe Productions, showcases innovative technology and creative engineering.

“Trains have always fascinated me. Their mix of rhythmic clicks and clacks, the screech of metal on metal, the sound and smell of air brakes in underground tunnels, and a complex system of signals and points that magically control your journey and destination.”

 Paul Mac, musician and train-lover

SimpleMotion.Lighting, tasked with realising this vision, collaborated with Real World to develop advanced infrastructure for the immersive experience. The unique challenges of a train environment—strict safety standards, variable power, and cabling complexities—were overcome through robust communication systems and failsafe mechanisms. This collaboration highlights the technological ingenuity behind the Tekno Train’s success.

What’s new?

  • Overcoming challenges in a dynamic environment

Designing for a moving train posed significant challenges, including strict engineering protocols, ensuring cabling security, and managing unpredictable power supply. Partnering with SimpleMotion.Lighting, Real World engineered a communication system that transmits lighting and audio data seamlessly in real time. Additional features, such as isolation capabilities and guard announcement prioritisation, were incorporated to prioritise safety and reliability.

  • A collaborative effort for innovation

The Tekno Train project represents a world-first in merging art and engineering. Guided by Jonathan Boer from SimpleMotion.Lighting, the team delivered a groundbreaking infrastructure that supports interactive sound and light displays. This achievement reflects the commitment of all contributors, including Performing Lines, to pushing creative boundaries while maintaining operational excellence.

  • Immersive routes for all audiences

Passengers can select from two captivating journeys. The Scenic Route offers a relaxed experience ideal for families, featuring stunning views over the Harbour Bridge and Lavender Bay. Alternatively, the Tek Express delivers a high-energy, fast-paced adventure through the City Circle and South Sydney, appealing to thrill-seekers. Both routes provide an engaging and unforgettable way to experience Vivid Sydney.
