Telkomsel’s Vision: Innovations driving Telkomsel’s growth

Founded in 1995, PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) is Indonesia’s largest mobile network operator, jointly owned by Telkom Indonesia (69.9%) and Singapore’s Singtel (30.1%). With a subscriber base exceeding 169 million, Telkomsel commands a dominant position in the Indonesian telecom market . The company’s vision is to be the best digital telco service provider in the region by empowering Indonesians to make a better today and excellent tomorrow .

Telkomsel has been at the forefront of technological advancements, particularly with its 5G rollout, deploying over 470 5G base transceiver stations (BTS) by Q3 2023, a 50-unit increase from the previous quarter. The company’s digital ecosystem, INDICO, fosters innovation in health-tech (Fita), edu-tech (Kuncie), and gaming (Majamojo), leveraging Telkomsel’s customer insights and distribution channels. Telkomsel also promotes local content globally through MAXStream Studios, partnering with platforms like Netflix and Viu, and nurturing young filmmakers via collaborations like the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival. Derrick Heng, Telkomsel’s Chief Marketing Officer, stated, “Our participation at APOS 2024 is a strategic move to reaffirm Telkomsel’s commitment to expanding access to the latest digital entertainment for all Indonesians”.

Telkomsel’s innovations: 5G, AI, and Enterprise Solutions

Telkomsel has been at the forefront of technological innovation in Indonesia. In 2024, the company received international recognition at the Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI) Awards for its pioneering 5G robotic telesurgery use case. This initiative demonstrated the potential of 5G in delivering real-time, remote surgical procedures, enhancing healthcare accessibility across Indonesia’s vast archipelago .

Beyond healthcare, Telkomsel is leveraging AI to transform various industries. At Solution Day 2024, Telkomsel Enterprise introduced “Smart Port,” an AI-based system developed in collaboration with Huawei to optimize port operations and reduce CO2 emissions . Additionally, partnerships with companies like Wuling Motors and ZTE are exploring the integration of 5G in electric vehicles and autonomous driving technologies .

Telkomsel is also fostering digital innovation through its Telkomsel Innovation Center (TINC), which supports startups and innovators in developing scalable digital solutions. By providing access to its extensive network and resources, TINC aims to accelerate the growth of Indonesia’s digital ecosystem .

As Indonesia continues its digital transformation journey, Telkomsel remains a key player in driving innovation and inclusion. Through its commitment to technological advancement and community empowerment, the company is poised to shape a more connected and prosperous future for Indonesia.
