SingAREN: Connecting Singapore’s research community
Founded in 1997, SingAREN provides high-speed research and education network services across Singapore. The network connects universities, research institutions, and government agencies, promoting global research collaboration. It uses the SingAREN Open Exchange (SOE), which offers bandwidth from 1 Gbps to 100 Gbps. This ensures fast and efficient data transfers for researchers.
SingAREN also offers value-added services like eduroam, Singapore Access Federation (SGAF), and database mirroring. These services improve collaboration by granting easy access to shared resources. As a result, they help Singapore maintain its position as a global hub for research and education.

SingAREN: Ensuring resilience and innovation
SingAREN ensures network resilience through its participation in the Asia-Pacific-Europe Ring (AER). This partnership provides backup connectivity in case of disruptions, such as submarine cable failures. If a network outage occurs, SingAREN can reroute traffic to alternative paths, ensuring minimal downtime.
SingAREN also leads in innovation. It launched the SingAREN-Lightwave Internet Exchange (SLIX), a 100 Gbps community network. This infrastructure supports data-heavy fields like genomics and meteorology. Furthermore, SingAREN has enhanced its cybersecurity through a partnership with Check Point Software. This upgrade secures high-throughput data transfers, helping researchers maintain trust in the network’s reliability and security.
