ONEP considers suggestions for 5th biodiversity action plan

  • The Office of Natural Resources and Environment Policy and Planning (ONEP) held a panel meeting under the Global Biodiversity Framework Early Action Support Project to receive comments and suggestions on the fifth national biodiversity Strategy and action plan.
  • Representatives of the agencies exchanged views and suggestions on the national goals and the national biodiversity strategy and action plan, and discussed the mandates and implementation of the agencies related to the national biodiversity goals.
  • The Secretary-General of ONEP discussed the guidelines for the implementation of international conventions with the director of the division of international organisations.

Work together to prepare plans

The Office of Natural Resources and Environment Policy and Planning (ONEP) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme UAE Limited, held a panel meeting at Century Park Hotel in Bangkok under the Global Biodiversity Framework Early Action Support Project to hear comments and suggestions on the national targets and the fifth National Biodiversity Strategy and action Plan. Representatives of major national institutions of relevant conventions and international cooperation projects made opening remarks and attended the meeting, which was attended by about 30 people.

Representatives of the agencies exchanged views and suggestions on the national goals and the national biodiversity strategy and action plan (draft), and discussed the mandates and implementation of the agencies related to the national biodiversity goals. Under the Fifth National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan for 2023-2027, the two sides also discussed and exchanged views on the cooperation of key institutions in the relevant conventions. And international cooperation projects to further future joint actions.

Discussions with director of the division of international organisations

ONEP Secretary-General, Mr Girawat Ratisorn, and ONEP Deputy Secretary-General, Ms Kittima Yincharoen, held discussions with Ms Chittinan Ruangweerayuth, Director of the International Biodiversity Management Division. The Director of the Department of International Organizations and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered speeches on the guidelines and directions for the implementation of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage and the Convention on Biological Diversity. ONEP requested support for the Global Biodiversity Framework Fund to implement biodiversity projects.

Its mission is to develop policies and plans to strengthen the national economy and support sustainable development and a good quality of life by recommending policies and plans for the conservation and management of natural resources and the environment, as well as supporting the specific implementation of management, and monitoring environmental impact measures based on environmental impact assessment reports.
