BotswanaPost services and network

BotswanaPost was founded in 1875 by a missionary society. It is the designated postal operator in Botswana. The organisation manages over 136 post offices and kiosks nationwide. It also operates virtual teller machines. BotswanaPost delivers mail, parcels and courier services across urban and remote areas. The company supports government and public service distribution programmes. It processes over 100,000 social grant payments every month. BotswanaPost also issues national postage stamps. It handles local and international mail volumes of around 40 million items per year.

The organisation works under the Ministry of Communications, Knowledge and Technology. It provides affordable postal products through both physical branches and agent networks. It employs staff in delivery, logistics and branch operations. BotswanaPost uses infrastructure such as sorting centres, delivery vehicles, kiosks and retail outlets. It continues to operate traditional mail services alongside expanding agency and logistics roles. It covers postal and courier services for individual and commercial clients.

Digital solutions and healthcare logistics

BotswanaPost has diversified through fintech and logistics innovations. It launched a digital post office platform known as DigiPost. The platform powers the Posa’it super app, which unifies PosoMoney, DigiPost and PosoApp services. The app offers cash withdrawals and deposits, utility payments, airtime, airtime, insurance premiums and mobile money transfers. Agents and SMEs can resell postal services using DigiPost. The network uses over 400 biometric POS terminals to support agency banking.

BotswanaPost aims to reach over 500,000 users, especially youth and women within three years. It expects around 194,000 new wallet subscribers and 4 million monthly wallet transactions by year five. The company also collaborates with international postal unions and logistics partners. BotswanaPost launched its Post4Health initiative in partnership with the Universal Postal Union. The programme deploys temperature-controlled vehicles for safe vaccine and medical distribution. It bolsters national healthcare logistics, especially for remote areas. The initiative supports climate-resilient delivery and aligns with national health and development plans. BotswanaPost secured funding for cold-chain vehicles and logistics enhancement. It positions itself as a logistics partner in healthcare distribution and national development.
