    • Bakwena Telecommunications is 100% Black-owned, licensed ISP based in Ekurhuleni.
    • Services include fibre, wireless, data centre co-location, and network construction.

Serving homes & businesses with local infrastructure

Bakwena Telecommunications began in 2018 as Bakwena Wireless, founded by CEO Kopano Ramashala from Daveyton. He started it to provide uncapped internet to his community, driven by his own frustration with limited service. The ISP now offers both fibre and wireless connectivity to residential and business customers across rural and urban areas. They partner with major data providers, ISPs, and Fibre Network Operators (FNOs) to ensure both international and local internet access. Products include “Home & Business Fibre,” “Home & Business Air-Fibre,” and Ekasi WIFI, suited for different needs. They also design, build, test, and maintain copper and fibre optic networks. Their fibre optic construction services are end-to-end turnkey, targeted at developers and large ISPs.

    Innovation-driven connectivity & managed services

Bakwena is driving innovation in the delivery of connectivity across South Africa. By leveraging both licensed and license-free wireless spectrum alongside high-capacity fibre networks, the company creates a versatile and resilient infrastructure. They construct self-owned towers and also collaborate on open-access projects, forming a hybrid network model that ensures flexible, reliable service even in underserved or hard-to-reach areas, including rural and challenging terrains.

In addition, Bakwena’s co-location and hosting services are housed within a Teraco facility, providing high uptime, robust security, and a fault-tolerant environment. This combination of reliability and local presence sets a new benchmark for data hosting and colocation services in the region. Their managed network services further support existing ISPs, corporate clients, property developers, and residential customers by offering end-to-end solutions—from network design and implementation to ongoing maintenance—ensuring smooth operation and performance optimization.

Bakwena also emphasizes affordable, locally tailored packages, ensuring that innovation extends beyond technology into pricing strategies and service delivery models. By doing so, they make high-quality internet access more accessible to diverse communities. Their overarching mission is to bridge digital divides, delivering fast, reliable, and uncapped internet while promoting local ownership, empowering communities, and driving socio-economic impact. Through this approach, Bakwena positions itself as both a technological innovator and a catalyst for digital inclusion in South Africa.
